What I didn't love about Carnival Sunshine

It’s a whole new cruise experience, with plenty of new memories to make and share with friends, family and loved ones. When originally launched as Carnival Destiny, Carnival Sunshine was the lead ship for Carnival’s Destiny class. However, when Carnival Destiny was rebranded as Carnival Sunshine in 2013, it took over as the lead ship for the new Sunshine class. Sister ships include similarly refurbished and renamed ships, the current Carnival Radiance and Carnival Sunrise.

Plush chaise lounges and chairs, a pool, a whirlpool and a relaxing waterfall add to the serenity of the three-deck-high adults-only area. A video arcade is a popular spot and teens also have their own club with a dance floor and soft-drink bar. Active cruisers will find plenty to do at the ship's open-air recreation complex, boasting a ropes course, mini-golf, a basketball court, pool tables, foosball, a jogging track and more. Ocean Suites (which also technically include a few Cloud 9 Spa suites) offer more indoor space, large balconies, walk-in closets and whirlpool tubs in the bathrooms. Special amenities also include priority check-in and express boarding, priority dining times, room stewards and more.

Don’t worry — that’s because all of them were renamed when the Destiny class was rechristened the Sunshine class, and all of the ships received new names and new looks. The ship was also constructed in Finland at the cost of 315 million. She departed on her inaugural voyage in March 1998 and since then has undergone 10 dry docks, with the latest adding the ship’s new red, white, and blue livery. Carnival Cruise Line officialy took control of the ship from Costa at the shipyard in Cadiz, Spain in February 2024.

Light-wood cabinetry, soft pastels, mirrored accents, a small refrigerator, a personal safe, a hair dryer, and a seating area with sofa, chair, and table are typical for ocean-view cabins and suites. My shipmates included lots of families, couples traveling together and multigenerational reunion groups.
